Point contact, line contact and surface contact
High-strength steel wire ropes are divided into three types according to the contact state of adjacent layers of steel wires: point contact, line contact and surface contact.
Specific classification and characteristics
Point contact type
Adjacent layers of steel wires are in contact in a point-like form. Except for the center wire, the diameter of each layer of steel wire is the same. This structure has good flexibility, but relatively low durability. Typical structures include 6×19, 6×37, etc.
Line contact type
Adjacent layers of steel wires are in linear contact, formed by twisting steel wires of different diameters at one time. Its load-bearing capacity and wear resistance are better than point contact type. Typical structures include 6×7, 6×19(a), etc.
Surface contact type
Adjacent layers of steel wires are in surface contact. A larger contact area is achieved through a special rolling process, which further improves strength and compressive resistance, and is suitable for high-load scenarios.
