Classification Of Coated Steel Wire

Coated steel wire can be divided into different classification methods, mainly including the following types:

Classification by coating material:

Galvanized steel wire: A layer of zinc is plated on the surface of the steel wire to improve its corrosion resistance. Galvanized steel wire is divided into hot-dip galvanizing and cold-dip galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanized steel wire mesh is galvanized at high temperature to form a tightly bonded coating with stronger corrosion resistance.

Copper-plated steel wire: A copper layer is plated on the surface of the steel wire to improve its corrosion resistance and conductivity. According to the thickness and purpose of the copper coating, copper-plated steel wire can be divided into thin copper-plated and thick copper-plated steel wire, which are suitable for different conductive connections and metal mesh occasions.

Aluminum-plated steel wire: Aluminum is plated on the surface of the steel wire to improve its corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Aluminum-plated steel wire is often used in occasions that require high corrosion resistance.

Classification by electrochemical properties:

Anodic coating: Such as zinc coating, its metal potential is lower than that of the base metal. Anodic coatings will corrode first when corroded, thus protecting the base metal. Common anodic coatings include zinc plating, cadmium plating, etc.
‌Cathode coatings‌: Such as copper plating, nickel plating, etc., whose metal potential is higher than the base metal. Cathodic coatings need to be intact to protect the base metal. Once there is a defect, the base metal will be corroded first.
‌Classification by use‌:

‌Protective coatings‌: Mainly used to prevent the base metal from corroding in the atmosphere or other environments, such as zinc plating, cadmium plating, etc.
‌Protective-decorative coatings‌: Not only provide protection, but also have decorative effects, such as copper/nickel/chromium multilayer coatings‌.
‌Functional coatings‌: Provide specific functions according to specific needs, such as conductivity, wear resistance, etc.
